Summary
Another new owner, another not-that-fantastic farm system. A new owner again walks into the league with a competitive team and a sorely lacking set of prospects. Already though, there seem to be some improvements. Hard to predict what woulda/coulda/shoula been, but seeing some solid names at the top of this org chart from the most recent draft is a sensation I’m not used to with this franchise.
Han-drill is a name that everyone seemed to be pining over at the draft in March, and Kirk is a name that has been on the short list of valued catching prospects for the better part of the last year. Both are very solid pieces to headline a competitive teams farm system. Antoine Kelly and Miguel Hiraldo are two more well respected names that are likely to only get better with time. Beyond that you have the brick of “guys” with such controversial names as Patrick Bailey and Jordan Westburg. Once you get outside the top 11 though you run into an absolute onslaught of fringy lottery ticket types headlined by Tristin English, Kyle Stowers, Blaze Jordan, Connor Seabold, Vladimir Gutierrez and Yanquiel Fernandez.
This a respectable farm system considering this franchises position in it’s competitive cycle. I think the influx of talent from the recent draft has helped stabilize a struggling farm, and with some similar drafts in the future (presuming ample picks) and reasonable prospect development success, we could be seeing a top 10 farm system in the next couple years. Same caveat as the Nellamaniacs though, as this analysis is heavily dependent on if Carrol opts to compete or coast. Time will tell.
