Here’s the print copy of our podcast Mock Draft. In case you didn’t listen, Jeff picked all of his own picks, while Tom and myself traded off every other pick. However, before the draft started, Jeff traded picks 10&11 to me for pick 5.
1. Banocolates(via G.I. Zo’s)- Spencer Torkelson 3B Det This is kind of a lock, and not even because Jeff is draft #1.
2. Banocolates- Austin Martin CF Tor- Martin is a fairly consensus #2 in this draft, and makes it even more unfair that Jeff could very likely have the top two picks. Ray, can you create a rule that disadvantages the AL East again, just one more time, as a favor?
3. Pro Bowlers- Zac Veen OF Col- Veen will be an interesting name on draft day as the top HS bat, and usually, the top HS bats don’t last very long. Especially when they land in Coors.
4. Tom Cats (via Kelly’s Heroes)- Garrett Mitchell OF Mil- Plus power? From a guy that Tom drafted? And a Plus runner? Wha…I jus… I need to sit down.
5. Banacolates (via Fajita Eaters)- Heston Kjerstad OF Bal- As Jeff mentioned on the pod, he sticks with talent here, trying to ignore the fact that Kjerstad was thrown into a developmental dumpster fire.
6. Scared Hitless (via Rollin Goats)- Nick Gonzales SS Pit- As I mentioned on the podcast, Gonzales will be an interesting case come draft day, as he’s hit everywhere, but maybe not against the best competition.
7. Banacolates (via The Big Hurts)- Asa Lacy SP KC- If Jeff were to ever, ever draft a pitcher in the first round of the CPL draft, stealing a Lefty in front of me or a Royal in front of Fred would be the way.
8. Baby Seals- Max Meyer SP Mia- Fred hasn’t shied away from College Arms in the first round, as I noted, and why not? He’s had a decent run with them.
9. Banacolates (via Tom Cats)- Tyler Soderstrom C Oak- Jeff admittedly went off the board with this one, as his last pick, which is just further incentive for him to do even more wheeling and dealing.
10. Fajita Eaters (via Mauling Tigers)- Emerson Hancock SP Sea- No idea who this guy is.
11. Fajita Eaters (via BROB’s Barnacles)- Ed Howard SS ChC- This is the kid where Bob Nightengale lauded the pick because the Cubs drafted a black guy after promoting BLM leading up the draft. Not making that up.
12. G.I. Zo’s (via Ball Busters)- Austin Hendrick OF Cin- Seriously upset with Tom for not taking a J2 player for Zobrack here.
13. Danimals- Yoelqui Cespedes OF ???- ‘Dan loves big sexy names’ should be something that sticks, I believe. But Cubans, man, Cubans!
14. Motley Shue (via Scared Hitless)- Robert Hassell OF SD- So I gave Tom some shit for drafting Shue a high school honky here, but now that I look into Hassell, this does seem like a great pick, so yeah, it’s totally something Shue would do. Shue is the best. All hail Shue.
15. G.I. Zo’s (via Your Mom)- Carlos Colmenarez SS TB- JUUUU-LYYYY TWOOOOO, BAYBAY
16. Danimals (via Motley Shue)- Reid Detmers SP LAA- Throwing darts as to who’s going to be the 16th pick in any draft is always tough, but I like Dan starting the inevitable run on college pitchers with the last pick in the first round.
