Jefferson’s Farm Rankings

In an effort to not get shown up by Rem and Tom, here is my farm ranking and some logic behind it. 

I start by taking the entirety of the CPL rosters and grab any prospect with an FV ranking in any of my major resources. I then adjust this rank up/down a little bit based on a risk grade that comes with it. I then average all FV scores for each prospect. Then I make another adjustment based on the last two years of minor league data. This gets you a JASS grade (Jefferson’s Adjusted Scouting Score). It functions just like an FV grade. Wander Franco has a 75.7 JASS. Isaac Paredes has a 56.3 JASS. This sounds like a lot of work, but it’s really not. Most of it is processed automatically as part of my software scripts I use in evaluating prospects.  

Next, we need to compare the valve of all those prospects. I built up the formula below to convert FV (or JASS in our case) to prospect value equal to first round picks. A 55FV is roughly worth one first. A 45FV is worth 0.06 firsts (about a 5^th round pick). Anything below a 42FV gets truncated down to 0 value. This is a very broad conversion and only used for this farm ranking system. Each prospect varies way too much to actually assign a round pick value in this way. 

After that, it is a very simple operation to total up the value of each farm. I have a number for total farm value, which includes every prospect owned. And then a top 30 value, which only counts the top 30 prospects for each system.
