Mock Draft 2.0 rounds

Last year in my two round mock, I got the top 9 correct, just in the wrong order, I nailed 6 picks(including my own, which I’m still taking credit for), and also only missed on 6 guys being picked in the top two rounds, which is 81%, right in my academic wheelhouse, a solid B-! I got 12/16 first rounders correct(just missed on Waldrep and Taylor at 17/18), 24 of my top 26 picks went in the top 29! Hot Dog, I might not be bad at this!

So with that stupid bragging out of the way, here’s this year’s mock!

1. BROB’s Barnacles- Roki Sasaki- It’s literally written into the trade for this pick. Boring! Should’ve written in a clause for his inevitable Tommy John surgery too. zzzzzing!
2. BROB’s Barnacles-Travis Bazzana- My sources(the article Brian wrote himself) says that the Bazmanian Devil already belongs to BROB’s Barnacles. I’ll take his word for it.
3. Danimals- J.J. Wetherholt- Dan can’t go wrong here between Wetherholt and Kurtz, so I’ll differ to the premium position, and maybe better overall contributions.
4. Banocolates- Nick Kurtz- Jeff really can’t go wrong with a pretty clear tier of 4 falling into his lap here.
5. The Big Units- Chase Burns- After missing out on Paul Skenes by one pick last year, Carroll stocks his arms with the best draftee arm on the board, and someone who should be up and contributing soon.
6. Danimals- Charlie Condon- “Condom Chuck” as I’m going to be calling him has the ‘light tower power’ that everyone covets, but I think questions about his hit tool, debut and organization ding him a little.
7. Pro Bowlers- Konnor Griffin- Perhaps the highest ceiling of the hitters in the draft, Griffin becomes the first high schooler off the board, where Pat isn’t afraid to take on the risk of this absolute Tool Shed.
8. Baby Seals- Jac Caglianone- You can make a pretty good argument for Caglianone to be in the top tier of college hitters, but there’s a few questions marks. Fred gets A. his replacement for Alonso and B. a Royal! Bonus points if he ever pitches at all.
9. Danimals- Hyeseong Kim- I omitted Kim from my last mock, but after further reflection, I would assume he’ll be a CPL first rounder, even if he’s a super-utility player for the Dodgers, I’ve got to imagine he gets plenty of at bats and maybe the position flexibility is helpful too.
10. Banocolates- Cam Smith- Jeff professed his love for this Cub refugee on the pod, and he’s got a bat that’s easy to like, and a profile that Jeff tends to like as well. It’s a match made at Giordano’s.
11. Pro Bowlers- Hagen Smith- This is a decent pick in a vacuum, but Pat has a fairly decent need for pitching, and Smith provides the highest upside here, although Pat taking Blue Jay Trey Yesavage wouldn’t shock me either.
12. Danimals- Seaver King- King might be the Trea Turner of this draft class, where we all look back and scratch our heads how he ended up in the middle of the round with tools like this. Because Dan.
13. Danimals- Josuar Gonzalez- I had Dan taking Josuar at 9 previously, and then he traded for this pick to get 73 picks in this first round, so “blowing” one on the tippy-top J15 IFA isn’t a bad idea.
14. Nellamaniacs- Braden Montgomery- Nelly is a bit of a wildcard sometimes on draft day, but I just have a feel that Montgomery’s Plus Power will beckon Nelly in.
15. Motley Shue- Dante Nori- Nori has a skillset that’s very coveted in the CPL, and even though his complexion might be a touch light for Shue’s tastes, Shue has always loved his Phillies farmhands.
16. Bloop and a Blast- Bryce Rainer- Rainer is interesting because he’s a statuesque shortstop but seems to put it all together and has plenty of tools? I know, I’m confused too.
17. Kelly’s Heroes- Slade Caldwell- KLaw guy.
18. BROB’s Barnacles- Christian Moore- Brian posted the consensus rankings, and Moore was fairly high among them, having been a top 10 pick in the draft, so I don’t think Brian lets him slip any further.
19. Danimals- Trey Yesavage- Dan diversifies further on his draft haul by drafting a pitcher, and akin to my Trea Turner comp of King, if you listen to the podcast with Ray covering the 2015 draft, Yesavage has a great pre-draft comp of Aaron Nola, pegged as too boring to be elite. So, of course, Dan will get him, and he’ll be another goddamn Aaron Nola.
20. Bloop and a Blast- Theo Gillen- 55/55 bat with 60 speed is going to garner some attention, and the Rays have earned my respect in developing players, even if they’ve drawn my ire on where they have all these kids play all over the diamond.
21. The Big Units- PJ Morlando- I might have been a little too excited on Morlando last mock, but I still think he’s great pick wherever he falls, and would be thrilled for my buddy Carroll here.
22. Kelly’s Heroes- Elian Pena- JK’s stock market is open for business, and you can’t turn a profit if the ceiling isn’t high, and I have Pena’s right up there with Josuar, buoyed by better hitting and defense.
23. Pro Bowlers- Cam Caminiti- I’m having Pat stockpile pitchers here, which might be a tad unfair, but ya know, he’s gotta do something, so, yeah. Caminiti has the rare mix of great stuff and lots of projection left.
24. Baby Seals- Vance Honeycutt- Reading about Honeycutt turned me off because he reminded so much of Hunter Pence’s goofy ass game, and Pence is a bonafide Baby Seal Hall of Famer.
25. Banocolates- James Tibbs II- Solid hitter, defensive fit optional? If Jeff had a prospect tinder profile, that would be what he sets his dealbreakers to.
26. Banocolates- Ryan Waldschmidt- Waldo seems like such a solid, if unspectacular, white outfielder, so much so that I Mandela effect’d myself into believing he was a Cardinals prospect.
27. Banocoloates- Kyle DeBarge- Oh, another bat-first college infielder, real original, Rem.
28. Fajita Eaters- Kellon Lindsey- No smoke here, I like this kid a lot. He’s my new Matt Lipka (deep cut there), lots of speed, questionable bat, once and a while these guys just grab me.
29. Tom Cats- Griffin Burkholder- Speaking of speed, if Tom’s formulas are finished before he picks at this particular moment in the draft(they won’t be, but he’ll be working on them), I gotta think he’ll be at least mildly interested in Burkholder.
30. Nelly’s Nellamaniacs- Kaelen Culpepper- Ever the avid homer, Nelly takes the Twin’s first rounder, also enticed by his bat and speed. Will ask to call him Daunte, however.
31. Kelly’s Heroes- Tomoyuki Sugano- Sugano is interesting, because he’s so old, he’s only slightly younger than me. But he’s got a solid track record and a job locked in on a good team. If JK is looking to compete, I gotta think he’d take a swing at grabbing a bonafide starter here.
32. Fajita Eaters- Cris Rodriuguez- I like quite a few names from this IFA class, kind of anticipate a decent one I like falling all the way to me here, so I’ll spin the wheel on ‘The Eloy Carbon Copy’
