Rem’s Farm Rankings

Although I wasn’t able to complete my rankings before the podcast(but in the interest of time that was probably a good thing), I did do them eventually. A quick refresher on what I’ve used for my rankings the last few years, giving teams credit for each Top 100 player they have, up to 10 points for a top 10 player on one fo the 4 lists commonly used, 9 for 11-20, etc. Also giving each team a point for every top 30 player in the Baseball America handbook, as diligently gathered by Tom. So the top score one prospect can get is 41 points, if he’s top 10 on every list, and obviously 1 point for being a BA top 30 prospect. For fun I also subtracted a point for every non-Top 30 prospect in each org, which doesn’t move the needle much, as we all have some, but I figured having prospects arguably not worth owning should be punished somehow?

I organized it into a fun color scaled chart, because I like those, broken down by list and totals. If you’re super interested in my system, I can send you the spreadsheet, but then you’d be as big of a nerd as me, and no one wants that.

The symmetry is impressive, I think. Seems to be a clear top 3, a clear next four, a clear middle, a clear next four, then a clear bottom 3. Also impressive(or disconcerting, depending on your situation) is that 5 of the top 8 farms are owned by teams currently in the playoff spot. Early in the season, yes, but still an interesting development.

Also for fun, I’ve been tracking these numbers using the same system for three seasons now, so I made a fun little chart of the changes, which illustrated the player movement in the CPL offseason.

Goodness gracious, Dan. Dan acquired an entirely respectable farm system worth of prospects in the last year, on top of the farm he already had. Other teams have been noticably rocked by graduations and agressive buying, and the teams that added the most talent filled up the front of the CPL draft this year(except Ray, who is a sorcerer).
