It dawned on me that after the podcast I did not post my prospect rankings. As a refresher, I use four of the top prospect rankings and invert the list by tens, meaning a top ten prospect on that list gets ten points, and 11-20 prospect gets nine points, etc. I give one point per prospect on the farm, and DEDUCT for each owned prospect that’s not in their team’s baseball america top 30(which actually cost me a few spots this year, dagnabbit). Anywho, here we are-
According to my system, Brian has put together a hell of a farm, with the third best overall score since I started tracking. More impressively, he’s got a staggering 58 prospects with zero outside of the BA top 30’s. So even though my system heavily skews towards rewarding elite prospects, Brian clearly has a lot of good depth in his farm as well. Also of note is his 23 different top 100 prospects is tied for the second most since I started tracking as well.
There seems to be a nice cluster of elite farms after that in the top 4, as JK, Pat and Zobrack are all within one middle top 100 prospect of each other. The next four teams rounding out the top 8 are very good farms as well, historically speaking. The 183 points by Dan is the highest for an 8th ranking farm in the six years of tracking, and most of those teams were in the mid/low 100’s.
Also historical, 57 points separating the 9th team and the 16th team is a record as well, meaning the bottom of the CPL farms are very tightly packed this year, which could make for lots of movement in next year’s rankings, even without any big trades. Shue’s 45 points is the best 16th farm in that time as well.
The biggest gainer of the year was Ray, keeping up the tradition of the most aggressively rebuilding team gaining the most points. Jokes aside, his 126 point gain is the lowest top gain seen, as there was some selling this winter, but not like we’ve seen in previous years. Speaking of buying or selling, JK actually saw the biggest drop, despite still landing at second overall, which is a great place to be for him as his team actually starts to put together competitive weeks.
And since I started this during Covid, I’ve kept track of the fluctuations, which is fun to look at, and not just watching JK’s rollercoaster ride.
