Rem’s Two Round Mock

I had to make a mock that included me, so here’s the first two rounds.

1. Kelly’s Heroes- Wyatt Langford, OF Tex- JK takes the most likely superstar of this draft, a kid who was highly touted then blistered every level in half a year, and could very likely see the bigs this year.
2. G.I. Zo’s- Yoshinobu Yamamoto, SP LAD- Zobrack is hopefully pivoting to compete, so this pick makes sense, even if his team isn’t ready yet. But also- Yamamoto likely has the most value in the draft.
3. BROB’s Barnacles- Dylan Crews, OF Was- Brian has a bunch of great options here, but Crews has a great track record and is also close to being ready as well, so he’s a good fit to quicken the rebuild.
4. Kelly’s Heroes- Walter Jenkins, OF Min- Jenkins could very well be the best player in this draft when it’s all said and done, but he’s still a teenager, so this pick fits JK’s style and timeline perfectly.
5. Baby Seals- Jung Hoo Lee, OF SF- Fred was burned by not taking a sure thing last year, and could use the OF help, so I think Lee is just too good to pass up here. The Seals fans in attendance rejoice.
6. Danimals- Paul Skenes, SP Pit- Change from my last mock, as I think the hype around Skenes and undoubtedly pitching in the MLB this year help his draft stock just a touch, even in the CPL.
7. The Big Units- Max Clark, OF Det- Clark seems to be the red-headed stepchild of the top 5 MLB draft in regards to the CPL draft, because of concerns over his power, but he’s still got tons of upside.
8. Your Mom- Colt Emerson, SS, Sea- Ray allegedly is now sticking around at 8, so he must have a few guys he likes in that neighborhood, and in the absence of any Shockers, I’m throwing a dart here.
9. Banacolates- Matt Shaw, SS ChC- A college hitter, with a presumably high floor, who is a middle infielder and plays for the Cubs? Jeff remakes the Lonely Island classic ‘Jizz in my pants’ that night.
10. BROB’s Barnacles- Rhett Lowder, SP Cin- Brian is one not afraid of taking pitching early, and I really like Lowder in this draft, in the mold Aaron ‘he’s too solid to not be boring’ Nola, who panned out.
11. BROB’s Barnacles- Bryce Eldridge, SF OF- Eldridge gets a bunch of Aaron Judge comps because he’s also a massive human being, and if memory serves me, Brian also selected Judge in the draft.
12. G.I. Zo’s- Leodalis De Vries, SS SD- Zobrack traded up to this spot for *someone*, and given how the draft is shaking out, and knowing Chris is not at all afraid of IFAs, I think this is the furthest LDV falls.
13. Kelly’s Heroes- Arjun Nimmala, SS Tor- KLaw is a fan of this kid, said he had him ranked Top 10 in the draft, and that and his upside is likely all JK needs to hear to grab a legit SS with power potential.
14. Kelly’s Heroes- Brayden Taylor, 3B TB- Another guy high on KLaw’s Top 100, Taylor should hit enough to be a major leaguer, but will his defense be good enough to get full-time at bats in Tampa?
15. Kelly’s Heroes- Kyle Teel, C Bos- Speaking of KLaw, again, Teel was actually higher than Nimmala and Taylor in his Top 100 prospects list. I think there’s potential there, but how much is debatable.
16. Pro Bowlers- Brock Wilken, 3B Mil- Pat likes power, and Wilken might have the most in the draft, so it’s up to someone to gamble if he can tap into that power, and if he does, hoo boy.
17. Danimals- Hurston Waldrep, SP Atl- Dan loads up on pitching again, as Waldrep could move fast if he can find the strike zone a little better. I’m kind of pegging Waldrep as a big Boom/Bust guy.
18. Kelly’s Heroes- Noble Meyer, SP Mia- JK pulls the coup of the draft, trading down from 12 to 18, gathering some assets and… still landing the same guy as I had him mocked at 12. Brilliant!
19. BROB’s Barnacles- Enrique Bradfield, OF Bal- Brian adds another facet to his draft class. I got excited when I first read about EBJ, then sad when I realized there was no way he gets to me.
20. Danimals- Aiden Miller, 3B Phi- Miller is the Lite version of Wilken in age and power, but might hit more with more defensive capability. Usually a back half of the first profile, slides just a tad this year.
21. BROB’s Barnacles- Jose Perdomo, SS Atl- Brian continues to diversify his talent haul in a huge draft class for him, he adds his first IFA to the mix, and a guy who actually got a bigger bonus than LDV.
22. Danimals- Tommy Troy, SS Ari- Troy kind of feels like a solid unspoken gem in this draft, where he’s not the sexiest pick, but could end up being a productive MLB 2B on a good, young team.
23. The Big Units- Chase Dollander, SP Col- Dollander had a great pedigree pre-2023, then a disastrous season for his MLB/CPL draft stock, but if he can bounce back, he could have Ace-level stuff.
24. Banocolates- Nolan Schanuel, 1B LAA- Honestly, I’ll be a little surprised if Schanuel falls this far, given his MLB job already in hand a bit, but his limited upside will put him in the second somewhere.
25. Banocolates- Jacob Wilson, SS Oak- An interesting draft prospect, at the end of the day, he’s still a high-hit tool, high floor, college middle infielder, which as we know, is Jeff’s heroin.
26. Banocolates- Shota Imanaga, SP ChC- Ok, so this is just kind of a funny throw in on my part, I’m not big on Imanaga, but he’s got a job, he’s got some good skill/stuff, so I think he’s worth a shot here.
27. BROB’s Barnacles- Eduardo Morales, 3B CWS- I don’t think the biggest power grade in the IFA class ever goes unnoticed, and when you’re throwing darts at the fair, that’s not a bad balloon to aim for.
28. G.I. Zo’s- Fernando Cruz, SS ChC- Zobrack goes back to the IFA well just one more time, and it’s to add another top-flite talent, and further stockpile upside for his future. [Generic IFA comment]
29. Nellamaniacs- Jacob Gonzalez, SS CWS- As you learned on the pod, I am not a fan of Mr. Gonzalez, but Nelly is always a draft wildcard, and Gonzalez has a profile that could be appealing, if you buy it.
30. Danimals- Ralphy Velasquez, C Cle- Ralphy is a little under the radar this year, but I think compares well to Austin Wells from a few years back, and that’s gone well so far. If he sticks at C, huge win.
31. BROB’s Barnacles- Blake Mitchell, C KC- Mitchell was a Top 10 MLB pick, but understandably won’t sniff the first round in the CPL. There is some potential there for sure, he’s just going to take a while.
32. Fajita Eaters- Dillon Head, OF SD- Honestly, if Head falls to me here, I’ll be ecstatic. His speed advantage might be a little watered down in today’s MLB, but hey man, steals are steals!
