Magic/Tragic Numbers: Week 4

One week closer to actual valuable Magic/Tragic numbers.

With 48 categories left to be decided for each team, normally we would start to see some teams running away with it. And before last week, that looked like it might still happen. But, with a couple upsets and blowouts, now everything seems closer than ever.

Here’s the current overall standings:

AL West: Your Mom managed to generate some breathing room, but is still only separated from 3rd place by 3 games for a Magic Number of 45.5. Still a very tight race, and these inter-divisional matchups will be some of the more entertaining ones to watch these next 3 weeks.

AL East: Tom Cat’s saw a decent buffer slip away as Fajita Eaters is only 1 game behind him after a strong week upsetting Scared Hitless. Magic number at 47.5.

AL WC: BROB’s Barnacles has a 0.5 game lead for WC1, (magic number 48), but Baby Seals has a 9 game lead over Fajita Eaters (magic number 39.5), leading to a bit of a 2 way race for the 2 wild card spots.

NL West: Danimals has the biggest lead of any division leader after a huge win over The Big Hurts and a Kelly’s Heroes defeat at the hands of Ball Busters. With a 7.5 game, Danimals is still sitting on a 41 Magic number to clinch #1 in the NL West.

NL East: Almost as tight of a race as the AL West, Ball Busters has a measily 0.5 game lead over 2nd and 3 game lead over 3rd, requiring a maxed out Magic Number of 48 to clinch #1.

NL WC: Mauling Tigers has a 3 game lead in the WC1 slot over The Big Hurts (45.5 magic number), who in turn has a 2.5 game lead over Kelly’s Heroes for the WC2 slot (Magic Number 46). And all the way at the end of the NL, Motley Shue sees himself a mere 7 games out of the last wildcard fight, so all is far from lost in the highly contested NL.

#1 overall pick: With a 4.5 game “lead”, Banocolates still needs to lose 44 games to clinch #1. However, he only needs to lose 25 to clinch not 1st.
